Luca Di Leo
Global Head of Communications - Ferrero Group
Luca is a communication executive and economic journalist driven by sustainability. For almost a decade, he held senior communication roles at Italian food company Barilla and its Foundation, helping to transform the pasta giant into a global thought leader in the digital era. Luca was deeply involved in the Barilla Foundation, working with The Economist to craft a Food Sustainability Index that has become a benchmark in the field and with the Thomson Reuters Foundation on the “Foodlitzer,” an international journalism prize on food sustainability. Taking from the Foundation’s research on sustainable food systems, Luca played a key role in formalizing Barilla’s “Good for you, good for the Planet” purpose and its subsequent communications strategy. Previously, Luca worked as a reporter and editor for top media including The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Dow Jones, Reuters and The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). He was a special envoy to key international meetings of the G8, G20, the EU and the IMF and covered the economic fallout from the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the bursting of the technology bubble, the introduction of the euro and two global recessions. From Washington DC, working with Pulitzer-prize winning journalists from the WSJ, he followed the US government’s handling of the global financial crisis: a policy experiment of historic proportions led by the US Federal Reserve.
